THE SECOND ANNUAL MAINE BUILDING SCIENCE WEEK will take place November 2-8 this year. Organized by the nonprofit passivhausMAINE, the event was conceived as a statewide celebration of high-performance design, smart construction practices and the people shaping Maine’s built environment with a goal of making “building science” a household term. According to Dori Lam, the event organizer and program director for passivhauseMAINE, it’s structured to appeal to people of all different knowledge bases and backgrounds, “to learn about the science that goes into the design and construction of the buildings that we spend so much of our lives in.”
This Years’s events include the Green Home + Design Awards, a gathering of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association for non-traditional construction industry workers, lunch and learns about building science in retrofits, high-performance residential ventilation systems and more.
Some of the partnering organizations include Maine Indoor Air Quality Association, Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Maine, MaineCAN (Maine community-led Energy and Climate Action Network), WindowDressers, Green & Healthy Maine HOMES, as well as national organizations such as Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, Phius, Passive House Accelerator, and the Passive House Network.
