After a pandemic pause, the Green Home + Energy Show returned on April 9th, 2022. Held at The Point Community Center in South Portland, Maine, the show attracted a thousand attendees from Maine and greater New England.

The show brought together the leaders in Maine’s sustainable home and energy industries, from solar power to heat pumps, air quality to air sealing, and electric vehicles to sustainable home goods. Attendees came with specific questions about their projects, browsed the booths, and chatted with industry experts — some even connected with exhibitors about career opportunities within the high-performing home industry.

“It’s a great opportunity to have all of these experts together,” said Heather Chandler, publisher of Green & Healthy Maine HOMES magazine, and producer of the Green Home + Energy Show.

The best home shows I’ve ever attended, and I’ve been going to home shows for many years. The amount of education provided is over-the-top. Keep up the superlative work!

Workshops

Fourteen workshops were offered at the show, included with admission. Each workshop featured an engaging presentation and Q&A with a local industry leader.

Topics included improving indoor air quality, demystifying heat pumps, building science 101, rewilding with native plants, and more.

“The workshops were extremely popular,” said Raine Raynor of Green & Healthy Maine HOMES and workshop coordinator for the show. “Everyone was engaged, and many questions were answered today.”

New for 2022 was the Electric Vehicle Expo at the show, presented by Green & Healthy Maine HOMES in partnership with ReVision Energy and Efficiency Maine. As part of National Drive Electric Earth Day events, the Electric Vehicle Expo featured a wide selection of plug-in vehicles, including some available for test drives.

Attendees toured the cars, talked with electric vehicle owners, had their questions answered, and signed up for test drives. Efficiency Maine was on hand to discuss available EV rebates.

Maine Makers Fair

2022 also brought the addition of the Maine Makers Fair to the Green Home + Energy Show, featuring independent Maine makers and small artisan businesses.

From compostable floss to handwoven tea towels, attendees were delighted by the selection of sustainable home goods. Green & Healthy Maine HOMES looks forward to expanding the makers fair in future shows.

Tickets to the Green Home + Energy Show benefitted WindowDressers, a Maine nonprofit that brings volunteers together to build insulating window inserts. Inserts function as interior-mounted storm windows, improving the warmth and comfort of homes while reducing CO2 emissions.

Green & Healthy Maine HOMES made a $5250 donation to WindowDressers with the event’s ticket proceeds. This donation will help fund free insulating window inserts for low-income households.
